Town residents frequently comment on excessive noise from various sources throughout our town. One source that is mentioned frequently is engine, or jake, brakes. At the recommendation of the volunteer Traffic Committee, the Town’s Board of Selectmen recently authorized our contacting businesses regarding their use of jake brakes.
As such, if you have trucks that use jake brakes, we respectfully request that you refrain from their use in our town limits whenever possible. As applicable, would you also notify your suppliers that use heavy trucks of our request as well. We understand that they must be used at times, particularly where safe operation of your vehicle is concerned. We ask for your voluntary assistance in helping to address some of our residents, and most likely some of your customers or clients, concerns.
