The Town of Mount Desert Board of Selectmen announce the approval of a “Wireless Broadband Agreement” with RedZone Wireless of Rockland. The agreement is the conclusion of four months of intense negotiation to provide high speed broadband internet access to all of Mount Desert.
RedZone’s deployment of SkyPilot WiFi radios throughout Mount Desert will offer residents in the Somesville, Hall Quarry and Pretty Marsh areas of Town an alternative to the limited dial-up or satellite services currently available. The WiFi “mesh” system will also be available to residents of Otter Creek, Seal Harbor, and Northeast Harbor.
The build-out of the system will begin within 60 days with customer connections shortly following. RedZone will offer three service levels ranging from $24.95/month to $49.95/month without requiring a long term contract commitment. Download speeds will range from 500 kb/s to 2500 kb/s.
