Taxing Questions
This tax bill is the first use of values from our recent reassessment. Vision Appraisal Technologies conducted their reassessment work during 2006, invited property owners to contact them with valuation questions, and made adjustments when justified and those values are used in calculating this 2007 tax bill. The process and time for making pre-commitment changes to valuations has past.
We understand there are property owners who do not agree with the values indicated on their 2007 tax bills. If you believe the value of your property is unfair, overvalued or inaccurate relative to market value you may request a review by the Assessor. If you are unsatisfied with the Assessor's initial review you may file a formal abatement request within 185 days after commitment, (usually within days prior to tax bills being sent out).
Maine Revenue Services Property Tax Bulletin No. 10 describes the abatement process. Links to Bulletin No. 10 and necessary forms may be found on the Town's website (www.mtdesert.org) or requested from the Town Office. Thank you for your patience.
