The Mount Desert Fire Department will strive to be the best by being competent, professional, courteous and thorough, exemplifying the Maine work ethic. We will earn the trust and respect of the people we serve and protect. These high qualities of the Mount Desert Fire Department will be reflected by our conduct both on and off the job.
Integrity and Professionalism are first and foremost in all that we do and are the values that guide us to get the job done well.
We are all entrusted with big responsibilities. These do not make us important, but make more important the volunteer job we do as members of Mount Desert Fire Department. We are driven by the sense of what is in the best interest of the people we serve.
We will continually recruit the finest men and women to serve as Firefighters who will set the example for all and carry on our valued roles.
We will be balanced, inclusive and representative of our Community.
Our success is in focusing on team effort, with each member respected and accepting the others for who they are and with each member supporting and helping the others as we work together as a team.
Communications within our Department, other Town Departments, and our Community will be open, candid, honest and respectful of each other’s views.
We will strive to have the best available technology and equipment to safely accomplish our job. We are fulfilling a higher expectation for the Mount Desert Fire Department by ensuring people’s safety, preventing fires, educating the public, enhancing the quality of life in Mount Desert, and preserving the Town’s unique values.
We are continually seeking and receiving advice and suggestions from our members to constantly improve and grow.
Each member should come to the Fire Department and their station with a positive attitude, affecting not only themselves but also all people they interact with.
“The remarkable thing about attitude is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play the one string we have, and that is our attitude… We are in charge of our attitudes.” - Charles S. Windoll
