October is a transition month, sometimes summer, the days we enjoy and long for more, sometimes winter, snow covering the stubborn leaves still clinging to the maples and birches, and finally fall--that mixed-up reciprocal of spring. For the Town, October is much like the fall season, a time of transition. We are wrapping up one budget year, beginning the process of determining what we must do for the next. The current 2006 budget year is the first full year of our budget under LD 1, which placed a “cap” on our spending, a cap that my be overridden
by voter approval. Fortunately our 2006 budget did not exceed the LD 1 cap and our goal for the 2007 budget is to remain under the LD 1 cap. The legislation is succeeding in its intended purpose of reining in the growth of government. Look for additional information as we work through the budget process.
We are planning a fall newsletter that will provide information on the activities and plans for Town departments. The newsletter will be mailed to box holders in the Town of Mount Desert and the Summer Residents Association will mail copies to their out of town members. Results of the advisory referendums for a Fiscal Year Change and a White Tailed Deer Management Plan will be posted to the website as quickly as possible after the November 7, 2006 elections.
We will also post the newsletter t to our website. It is our intent to increase the effectiveness of the newsletter by making the content more germane. Please let us know how we are doing.
