In May 2006, the Comprehensive Plan Committee held six workshops throughout the villages and neighborhoods of Mount Desert, in order to bring the draft Goals & Objectives to the residents of Mount Desert and ensure they are on track with the priorities the residents have for their town. Over 120 residents turned out to discuss the update of the plan with the Committee.
There were a number of themes that many residents across the town felt were important. Priorities that emerged include providing workforce housing, sustaining a year-round community, retaining diversity in the town, high-speed internet access, and appreciation of the natural resources and rural qualities the town offers.
