Code Enforcement /Planning

Responsibilities:

The Code Enforcement Office provides services that guide the physical development of Mount Desert toward the achievement of community goals.  

 

The Office is responsible for building permits and enforcement of land use ordinances, NFPA 101 Life Safety Codes, Town building codes, and State & Federal statutes and regulations associated with land development.

 

**Building and CEO Permits**:  Signature. All applications shall be signed by an owner of the property or individual who can show evidence of right, title or interest in the property, or the owner’s legal agent, representative, tenant, or contractor of the owner with authorization from the owner to apply for a permit hereunder, certifying that the information on it is complete and accurate. If the person signing the application is not the owner or lessee of the property, then that person shall submit a letter of authorization from the owner or lessee.

 

The Local Plumbing Inspector is responsible for Maine State Internal and External Plumbing Code administration, including internal and external plumbing permits, questions, inspections, and enforcement.
 
**Internal Plumbing Permits**:  All Internal Plumbing Permits submitted, shall provide plumbing plans.  Permits once reviewed and approved will be issued to The Master Plumber and/or Property Owner (if property owner is doing there own plumbing in their own legal residence).

 

The Office is responsible for staff support of the Planning Board and Ordinance Review Committee.  Typically, the Office issues three hundred fifty permits annually and conducts more than 1,000 inspections in the process.
