Harbor Ordinance Changes

The Town of Mount Desert Harbormasters office would like to notify the public of some recent Harbor Ordinance changes.

We are seeking owners of unregistered moorings that are located outside of the designated harbors. The updated Harbor Ordinance states: “All moorings located in all harbors and all other tidal waters of the Town of Mount Desert shall be registered annually, prior to March 1st, with the Harbormaster, and a permit shall be obtained from the Harbor Master. All moorings not registered by April 15th each year shall be removed by the owner, and the mooring privilege shall be revoked.” Payment for your registered mooring will not be due until the 2024 boating year.

If you own moorings that are located outside of the harbors or have a mooring that is not registered, please fill out the provided information sheet and send it to the Harbormasters office. Please note that the definition of a resident has changed as it applies to the Harbor Ordinance, the new definition is: “Any person who occupies a dwelling within the Town of Mount Desert for more than 183 days in a calendar year.” The yearly mooring registration fee is $57.00 for residents and $107.00 for non-residents.
