Household Hazardous Waste & Universal Waste Collection

ADD’s Mount Desert Island Regional Collection of HHW&UW (Household Hazardous Waste & Universal Waste)

 

This year’s collection event will once again be held in the front parking lot of MDI High School on Saturday, September 29, 2018.

  • 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM for Bulk Truck or Trailer Loads.
  • 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM for General Public of MDI and other towns.

Registration forms are available at your local town office and entitle residents from the Towns of:  Cranberry Isles, Frenchboro, Lamoine, Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, Tremont, Trenton, and Swans Island to bring reasonable, household-type amounts of household hazardous waste (HHW) and/or universal waste (UW) to the collection at no direct charge. 

The same applies for Bar Harbor residents EXCEPT Bar Harbor residents are not allowed to dispose of UW at this event – they are directed to their own UW site at the Bar Harbor recycling center. We will accept materials from towns not listed above for a fee; the fee will not be known until the day of the collection. Representatives of the ADD and their vendors reserve the right to determine what a reasonable amount is.  ADD and its vendors reserve the right to refuse material(s) at their discretion.

Any Questions?  Contact your town office for the name of your ADD director and associated contact information. Volunteers are needed and appreciated. Please contact Chairman Tony Smith at director@mtdesert.org  for information - your tasks might include directing traffic and making written documentation in writing of amounts of materials per vehicle per town on standardized forms. You will not handle any materials - our vendors unload everything!  Lunch is provided. Thank you.
