DETOUR LIFTED on Beech Hill Cross Road

Detour Lifted: Paving of the base coat of asphalt on Beech Hill Cross Road near the intersection of Highway 102 has been completed. Beech Hill Cross Road is now open to local traffic. Please use caution when travelling in the area as construction on the culvert replacement is ongoing and crews will be working during the day. There will be one additional day of detour needed to complete the final paving for the project That closure will likely be August 14th or 15th.

The Town of Mount Desert is replacing the undersized and aging metal culverts that convey Denning Brook under Beech Hill Cross Road near the intersection of Route 102, south of Somesville. Construction by R.F. Jordan & Son’s will begin on July 17th, 2023, and extend through August 3rd, 2023. During construction, Beech Hill Cross Road will be closed to traffic which will detour via Pretty Marsh Road and Beech Hill Road (see below map). There will likely be some continued construction in the project area beyond August 3rd, 2023, but it is anticipated that a road closure will not be required after then.
