Mount Desert - 2022 Statistical Revaluation
The Town of Mount Desert has contracted with Vision Government Solutions to perform an update of all taxable real estate assessments, with work beginning this summer. Vision will be working closely with the Assessor’s office to make this project a successful one. A revaluation, also known as an equalization program, will determine the current fair market value of every property in town. The revaluation process equalizes assessments to their full market value, with the primary purpose of a more fair distribution of the tax burden. The last town-wide revaluation was completed in 2007.Updated assessments are scheduled to go into effect on July 1, 2022.
The typical phases of a statistical revaluation are: Sales Data Collection, Market Analysis, Valuation Adjustments, Field Reviews, and Informal Hearings. During the Sales Data Collection phase beginning this Summer, Vision’s data collectors will be visiting properties that have sold in the last several years to verify the property characteristics. Vision personnel will also be capturing pictures of all properties to update the assessor’s database.The Market Analysis & Valuation Adjustment phase will be starting this Fall, and Field Reviews done by early Spring of 2022. Notices of revised values will be sent to property owners in Spring 2022, with an opportunity to schedule any Informal Hearings with staff to review valuation information.
All Vision personnel vehicles will be registered with the Police as well as the Assessor’s Office at the town hall, so please call if you have concerns.
